lower ocean st in Santa cruz is pretty sketchy. You can do the best western on ocean and soquel. the access is pretty good. Ramada, fireside, mission inn, some hotels on the boardwalk side of the river are good.
i love Santa Cruz, stay here all the time (i'm in Watsonville now though)....but yes the Best Western Plus All Suites Inn on ocean and soquel is the only hotel i stay at in SC and it's perfect because the elevator is in the parking garage, so super easy in and out...the Dream Inn is good also, just a little on the pricier side...the continental inn is ok but u have to come down and let them in....anything cheap is just that and i would steer clear. and the paradox is beautiful but has a ton of security.
As previously stated, Best Western is among the best for value. Anything on the Boardwalk side of Soquel Ave. is considered lower Ocean and is undesirable. One possible exception is the Hotel Solaris. It seemed decent but I don't have much first hand knowledge. There are a few motels close to the Boardwalk that are decent. However, most of the decent ones near the Boardwalk are owned by the Boardwalk and that's why they tend to stay nice. The Carousel is an example. These motels have cameras everywhere and are monitored 24/7 by Boardwalk security. These motels should not be considered provider friendly. You will get hassled by security if they suspect anything.
May through September, room rates are pretty high particularly on weekends. They are tolerable this time of year. But, if the rate is crazy low, there's a reason. If cheap is your primary concern, stay on Ocean near 17. There are several "budget" motels that are decent but old and run down.
Yes. The Hotel Solares is also nice i forgot all about that one....its the newly remodeled Days Inn...only thing that might be a deal breaker for some hobbyists, is the only way in is through the front, so no avoiding of the lobby.

Best Western All Plus Inn and Suites always and the Holiday Inn right off the freeway was nice too. Or Fairfield Marriott on Brommer. Off Brommer, whatever.
Beautiful pretty chick! I'm thinking Scott's Valley...
but I am a huge fan of the Dream Inn...
what about Monterey?
Thank you!! Great feedback..... this makes me 100 times more excited about my visit
Thank you girly!
I think the Dream Inn is overpriced. It's all about the view from the room. If it's warm enough to enjoy the beach, I guess it could be nice. Always check the Dream Inn website. They will have a deal every so often like 20% off a 2 night stay. They don't advertise these offers very well even when your making a reservation. I hope you enjoy your visit.
I am sure I will! Thank you 😘😘
Hey, thank you for all the feedback on SC area! Awesome advise. Monterey is where I need to be..,

Group On has lots of deals and discounts for hotels and travel in the off season....excluding holidays. You can get the app and sign up for alerts.
I think the Dream Inn is overrated.......I've stayed there before as a guest of a friend.............thankfully I did not have to pay for the room.
I already have a view at home so that is not a deal breaker for me.
The Dream Inn is essentially still old and outdated despite a few cosmetic changes. The wall heaters in the room are horrific....old and noisy.....so much for peace and quiet on the ocean! If you stay there bring layers and warm clothing.
The lounge is nice with pricey fancy cocktails.
But you can't beat THE VIEW!
